Old Town 147

Old Town 147 Canoe

Last weekend when Kay and I were back in IL we came across an sale on canoes. At 40% off it was too good to pass up. We’ve been talking about getting one for a while now and with summer almost here it was time. There were two choices the Old Town 147 and the Pelican Navigator. The Pelican was an even better deal and the reviews I found seemed favorable for both. But when we got to the store there were no seats for the Pelican and it was questionable where they were. The Pelican was about a foot longer and deeper but beggers can’t be choosers at the price so it was the Old Town for us.

There were no shopping plans for the trip, let alone to bringing back something of that size so we had to leave it at Kay’s fathers house. I’ll get back soon to pick it up. Looking forward to getting it in the water and maybe see how the dogs do. I have a feeling that will be comical !!!

Canoeing on the Harpeth

This weekend we had a chance to go canoeing again on the Harpeth River. It’s nice to finally get to use this natural resource that’s just five minutes from the house. We didn’t go last year at all but this year it’s been twice in the last month and a half. With three companies providing kayak and canoe rental just down the road and a number of options for length of trips it will be easy to take advantage of getting on the river. I hope we can do this more and maybe even pickup a canoe or kayak of our own. Some pics are available on this flickr feed, it was a perfect outdoor activity for the 95+ degree day.
